Grateful
New year. New government. New perspective. New hope.
Could 2020 have been any more unsettling? Could we have been more isolated and fearful? Could we have been any more ashamed at the behavior of so many of our countrymen and neighbors? It was a year I hope to never relive. But, as a new year dawns, I find that there were still things to be appreciated in 2020.
Our daughter’s family goes around the table at dinnertime and everyone mentions something for which she is grateful. Our grandson has mastered the art of looking up through his eyelashes and being grateful for his grandparents. He knows how to please his audience. Our granddaughter usually opts for something about school. We adults talk of health, family and a delicious dinner. These are all excellent choices.
I am also grateful for FaceTime. Not all our kids, grandkids and friends live close by.
I am grateful for the technology that allows me to see them every day and to have them see me.
I am grateful for Zoom – so I can keep up with clubs, meetings and yoga.
I am grateful for our new home, our incredibly friendly new neighbors and all the techs who helped us set up our lives in a new place.
I am grateful for the beautiful autumn we had in the Midwest – since walking is something we can still do and be safe.
I am eternally grateful for all the frontline Covid-19 workers. Where would we be without them?
I am grateful that “The Crown” aired a new season.
I am grateful for every American who has worked so passionately to preserve our democracy.
I am grateful that there has actually been an NFL season.
