Old Dog - New Tricks

Slow Tag Press has now published two children’s books (Herbert Loves Sherbet and Do You Like Snow?) and is working on a third. We are very proud of the quality of our products – the stories, the artwork, the covers, the bindings. These are first class, hard cover tales that all children can enjoy.

The challenge now arises, how to sell these fabulous readers? I’m a marketer by trade, but a grand-motherly, Medicare card carrying, retired marketer. Times have changed and I find myself in the unsettling position of not knowing the landscape. E-Marketing is exciting and efficient and very, very confusing. I hired a young woman who analyzed our products and gave me 18 pages of digital marketing guidelines. Her plan includes sites on which to post daily, lists of hash tags (for what purpose – still working on that), networking, trade organizations…

I am reading through everything and implementing her suggestions as I go. Slowly, slowly I am re-learning my craft at an age when I thought I knew everything. Ha! This is both a boon and an annoyance.

Spending time “in school” again is not what I had in mind for retirement. But, exercising my brain is exactly what I need at this stage of life. I will (yes, I will) learn something new. I will continue to write and to market stories. I will reach out digitally to get books read, reviewed and sold. I will master these new tricks. Old dog, maybe. Sad, unfulfilled, boring dog – never.
